Working group for UNAMID’s exit strategy convenes
17 March 2015 – A joint working group composed of 16 Sudanese Government officials, 13 United Nations/UNAMID officials and 8 African Union officials met today to start preparations for drawing out a common strategy for UNAMID's eventual exit from Darfur. The meeting, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Khartoum, was inaugurated by Acting Undersecretary for Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sana Hamad, AU Ambassador in Sudan Mahmoud Kane and General Adrian Foster, Deputy Military Adviser at UN Headquarters, who heads the UN team in the Joint Working Group.

On 8 March 2015 , under the theme of “Empowering women, Empowering community” the African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID), in collaboration with the North Darfur State’s Committee for Resolution 1325 on Women, and the Practical Action Organization celebrated the International Women’s Day in El Fasher, North Darfur.

El Fasher, 28 February 2015 – Following the strategic review of the African Union – United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) operations undertaken in 2014 and as endorsed by the African Union Peace and Security Council and the UN Security Council; UNAMID continues to realign its resources and staffing to best serve the achievement of the Mission’s revised strategic priorities.

El Fasher, 19 February 2015 – United Nations and African Union officials met in Khartoum on 15-18 February to continue discussions with the Sudanese Government on UNAMID's eventual exit from Darfur.

UNAMID concerned over impact of fighting on civilian population in Darfur
22 January 2015 – Following clashes between armed opposition groups and the Sudanese Armed Forces in the East Jebel Marra area and north of Kutum over the past few weeks, the African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) is concerned about the impact of the ongoing conflict on civilians. Newly displaced people arrived in several localities of North Darfur, mainly in Um Baru, Tawilla and Sortony as well as Nertiti in Central Darfur. UNAMID is working in coordination with the UN country team and other humanitarian actors to provide protection and assist in the distribution of urgent aid to the affected populations.

UNAMID Acting Joint Special Representative visits West Darfur
African Union-United Nations Acting Joint Special Representative (AJSR), Mr. Abiodun Bashua, visited El Geneina, West Darfur, on 14-15 January to assess the security situation, the cooperation between the African Union -United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) and local authorities and the humanitarian situation particularly the plight of internally displaced people (IDPs) concerns.

Implementation Follow-Up Commission of the Doha Document discusses progress and challenges
13 January 2015 – The ninth meeting of the Implementation Follow-up Commission (IFC) of the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur (DDPD) was held yesterday in Nyala, South Darfur. The Commission discussed the progress made and the challenges faced in the implementation of the DDPD since its last meeting which was held on 28 April 2014.
