Abiodun Bashua appointed as UNAMID Deputy Joint Special Representative
United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and African Union Commission Chairperson Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma announced on 17 September 2014 the appointment of Abiodun Oluremi Bashua of Nigeria as Deputy Joint Special Representative for the African Union-United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID).

UNAMID calls for restraint over Kalma IDP camp tensions
Elfasher, 08 September 2014 – On 4 September, The African Union - United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID), received information that a Government of Sudan police team had entered Kalma camp for internally displaced people (IDPs) in South Darfur and drove down a road separating some of the camp's sectors.

UNAMID FC attends final security arrangements for JEM –Sudan Combatants in the implementaion of DDDP
El -Fasher, 05 September 2014 - The African Union -United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) Force Commander, Lt. General Paul Mella, attended Final Security Arrangements Exercise for JEM-Sudan Combatants which took place in Gadeed Alsail in El-Fasher, North Darfur. The JEM –Sudan Combatants were going through assessment and registration process aims to register combatants and inspect equipment and other assets of the movement. It also involves reintegration into the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) as well as disarmament, demobilization and reintegration of ex-combatants who are not suitable to join the SAF.

Head of UNAMID addresses launch of Doha Document security arrangements in El Fasher
25 August 2014 – The security arrangements for integrating about 1,350  former combatants from Justice and Equality Movement (JEM)– Sudan into the Government of Sudan military and police apparatus were launched today in a ceremony in El Fasher, North Darfur. The exercise is one of the main provisions stipulated in Doha Document for Peace in Darfur (DDPD).

Head of UNAMID inspects peacekeepers in North Darfur
The Joint Special Representative of African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID), Mr. Mohamed Ibn Chambas, paid a visit on 24 August to the Mission’s team sites in Um Baru and Tine, North Darfur, where he inspected the Senegalese peacekeepers newly deployed in the area.

UNAMID Head engages Government, displaced leaders in South Darfur to defuse tension
21 August 2014 - The Head of the African Union – United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) and Joint Chief Mediator, Mohamed Ibn Chambas, visited Nyala, South Darfur, to defuse tension in the area following recent security operations carried out by State authorities in camps for internally displaced persons (IDPs) and to coordinate with local authorities on tribal reconciliation and community development. During the two-day visit, Mr. Chambas met with Government authorities, IDP leaders and representatives of UN agencies operating in the state.
