Communiqué: African Union looks forward to the outcome of the ongoing joint AU-UN review of UNAMID
Addis Ababa, 6 December 2014: The Chairperson of the Commission of the African Union (AU), Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, is closely following the situation in the Darfur region of Sudan and the efforts of the AU-United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID). She notes the recent accusations levelled against UNAMID in the discharge of its mandate.

UNAMID launches campaign against recruitment of child soldiers
As part of its Darfur-wide campaign geared to prevent the recruitment of children as soldiers, on 26 November 2014, the African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) reached out to Masteriha community, North Darfur, in an event attended by more than 1,000 men, women and school children.

Darfuri women discuss implementation of UNSCR 1325
More than 140 women representing the five states of Darfur participated in a Global Open Day forum on the UN Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1325 organized by the African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) in El Fasher, North Darfur. The event that took place on 20 November 2014 was held under the theme “Women count for peace.”

UNAMID Acting Head visits East and South Darfur states
The Acting Joint Special Representative (JSR) of the African Union – United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) and Joint Chief Mediator a.i., Abiodun Bashua, visited Nyala in South Darfur and El Daein in East Darfur from 18-20 November, as part of his regional tour to follow up on coordination and cooperation between the Mission and the states' authorities to achieve peace in Darfur.

Demobilisation of former combatants begins in North Darfur
El Fasher, 12 November 2014: On 12 November 2014, the Sudan Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration Commission (SDDRC) marked the official launch of the demobilisation exercise for members of the Justice and Equality Movement-Sudan as well as the signatories to the Darfur Peace Agreement.

UNAMID concerned about possible security raids in Kalma camp, South Darfur
Nyala, 02 November 2014 — UNAMID has received information about the alleged intention of the Government of Sudan to conduct a security search operation in Kalma camp for internally displaced people (IDP) near Nyala, South Darfur, and it is concerned about its possible impact on the civilian population.
