El Fasher, 11 June 2013 – Civil Society representatives from Darfur’s five states came together for the first annual conference of the Darfur Civil Society Follow-up Mechanism on strategic planning. The two-day session, which began on 10 June, in El Fasher, North Darfur, provides a platform for Darfuris to define their support to the peace process, particularly in regards to the implementation of the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur (DDPD).

The scarcity of water is commonly known as one of the most significant environmental challenges in Darfur, and is frequently cited as one of the root causes of conflicts on the local level. The average water consumption in the camps for internally displaced people in North Darfur is around 10 litres per person per day, a quantity that not only includes domestic consumption but is also used for other activities, such as brick fabrication.

El Fasher, 29 May 2013 – The African Union - United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) joined the UN worldwide in the commemoration of the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers. The day, which was marked in Darfur’s five states, provided an opportunity to raise awareness about new developments in the field of peacekeeping while honouring those who lost their lives over the past year serving under the blue flag.
