UNAMID Head engages Government, displaced leaders in South Darfur to defuse tension
21 August 2014 - The Head of the African Union – United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) and Joint Chief Mediator, Mohamed Ibn Chambas, visited Nyala, South Darfur, to defuse tension in the area following recent security operations carried out by State authorities in camps for internally displaced persons (IDPs) and to coordinate with local authorities on tribal reconciliation and community development. During the two-day visit, Mr. Chambas met with Government authorities, IDP leaders and representatives of UN agencies operating in the state.

UNAMID concerned about security raids in South Darfur, takes mitigating measures
14 August 2014 — The African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) is concerned about the security raids, recently conducted by the Government of Sudan on internally displaced people (IDP) camps in Nyala and surrounding localities in South Darfur; due to their possible impact on the civilian population. The Mission has taken measures to mitigate the impact of such operations on the civilian population of these camps. More >>

UNAMID Head briefs UN Security Council on Darfur
8 August 2014 —African Union-United Nations Joint Special Representative (JSR) for Darfur and Chief Mediator, Mohamed Ibn Chambas, briefed on 7 August the United Nations Security Council on the situation in Darfur, as well as measures taken by UNAMID to implement the strategic priorities requested by the Council in its resolution 2148 (2014).

7 August 2014 — The leadership of the African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur welcomed the new steps taken by the Sudan Liberation Army/Minni Minawi (SLA/MM) to prohibit the recruitment and use of child soldiers in its ranks.

25 July 2014 A staff member with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Mr. Felix Ngoma, who was abducted in Nyala, South Darfur, on 6 July 2014, was freed today after 20 days in captivity.
