On 9 January 2016, UNAMID Acting Joint Special Representative (AJSR), Kingsley Mamabolo, conducted a two-day visit to South Darfur, accompanied by the Mission’s Police Commissioner, Priscilla Makotose, and other senior officials.

Upon their arrival, the UNAMID delegation paid a courtesy call on the state’s Wali (Governor), Adam Al Faki, where both sides exchanged views on issues related to peace, security, development and spoke of the ongoing cooperation between the Mission and state authorities in support of peace and reconciliation activities in South Darfur.

In his remarks to the media following the meeting, AJSR Mamabolo expressed appreciation of the state authorities’ efforts to transform South Darfur into a stable and peaceful community by transitioning from a post-conflict to development-focused society. “With commitment and passion to move forward, South Darfur can become a model of peace that all Darfur communities would look up to,” he stated.

AJSR Mamabolo and his delegation also met a United Kingdom government delegation at the Mission’s headquarters in Nyala and briefed them on UNAMID's mandated activities, the overall security situation, the challenges faced and aspects of cooperation between the Mission and the Government of Sudan.

Additionally, Mr. Mamabolo held a Town Hall meeting with UNAMID staff and the sector’s senior management, where he emphasised the importance of focusing on the Mission’s mandated priorities.

On the second day of the visit, the delegation visited Kass locality, some 80 kilometres north-west of Nyala, where they met with Mohammed Haroun, Locality Commissioner; the Emir of Kass; native administration leaders and representatives of internally displaced persons.
