Closure of UNMIL

The United Nations Mission in Liberia was established in October 2003 to support for the implementation of a ceasefire agreement and peace process, and to assist with the maintenance and restoration of law and order throughout Liberia. The mission successfully completed its mandate on 30 March 2018.

Members of the Security Council arrive in Liberia

The Liberia leg of the visit is co-led by Ambassador Susan Rice of the United States and Ambassador Mohammed Loulichki of Morocco. They will review the progress in the implementation of the UNMIL mandate.

During their time in the country, the members of the Security Council will meet with various stakeholders including Liberian security and rule of law representatives as well as civil society organizations. Later today, they will meet with President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and some cabinet members.
