Development Coordination

The DSRSG will assist the Special Representative of the Secretary-General in the implementation of the mandate of UNITAMS by overseeing the coordination mechanisms that ensure a coordinated ‘One UN’ approach to the technical assistance and programmatic roles of the United Nations country team, whilst ensuring the United Nations country team and the mission act in an integrated fashion.

By ensuring close integration between the United Nations country team and UNITAMS, the DSRSG will lead the implementation of the United Nations’ peacebuilding and development mandate in line with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable development by ensuring the coherence of the activities of the country team with the mandate and strategic priorities of UNITAMS. The incumbent will ensure that the national authorities receive well-coordinated technical assistance and programmatic support as they implement programmes to consolidate peace and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

The DSRSG will build close relations with national stakeholders at the political, strategic and technical levels as they relate to humanitarian intervention and sustainable development cooperation; and will spearhead UNITAMS’ work to support the Government in conducting a comprehensive assessment to define the country’s long-term conflict prevention, recovery and peacebuilding needs, and in developing relevant strategies to address these needs. The DSRSG will work closely with the responsible authorities in the transitional Government of Sudan to support donor coordination efforts and lead resource mobilization efforts on behalf of the UN system in Sudan.
