The SRSG in Algiers: “In the current context, time is the enemy of peace and stability in Mali and a peace agreement needs to be rapidly concluded”

Algiers, 4 April 2015 – The Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG), Mr. Mongi Hamdi, has been in the Algerian capital since yesterday to consult with the Foreign Minister of Algeria, H.E. Ramtane Lamamra, who leads the mediation team, and with a delegation of the Coordination, with a view to having the Coordination initial the Peace Agreement as soon as possible.

During these consultations, the Coordination reaffirmed its commitment to the Algiers process currently underway and reiterated its willingness to move forward to finalize the agreement as quickly as possible.

“Mali is confronted with multiple challenges and the firm commitment of all Malians is required to face them. The achievement of a credible, fair and lasting agreement is a necessary step and should be completed as quickly as possible,” said Mr. Hamdi. “MINUSMA will always stand by the Malians’ side and will continue to support all the efforts towards peace and stability in Mali,” he concluded.
