Attack Against a MINUSMA Camp in Timbuktu

The Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Mali (SRSG) and MINUSMA Chief, Mr. Mahamat Saleh Annadif, strongly condemns the attack that took place this morning in Timbuktu.

The attack occurred at 6:30 am and targeted a MINUSMA Police Camp (UNPOL). One MINUSMA Police Officer was slightly wounded when a car-bomb detonated.

“The attack is the work of the enemies of peace; peace is afoot, and the implementation of the Agreement is irreversible,” SRSG Annadif said.

"I commend the bravery and the efficiency of our partners from the Malian Defence and Security Forces (MDSF) and those of MINUSMA who intervened to stop the violence and neutralize the attackers," he added.

According to the Malian authorities, a FAMa soldier was killed and three others wounded during the operation.

SRSG Annadif extends its condolences to the FAMa, the family and relatives of the deceased and wishes a speedy recovery to all the injured.
