The consignment comprised sleeping mattresses, floor mats, detergents, blankets, tooth paste and water cans. The project is part of UPWN’s ongoing efforts to improve the standard of living for women inmates and their children in Darfur prisons.

Speaking at the occasion, the representative of UNAMID Sector East Head of Office, Mr. Franklyn Massaquoi voiced the Mission’s appreciation of the UPWN initiative to support female inmates stating that a “better future awaits the women inmates and their children” if they invest in more productive life choices in the future.

In her response, the East Darfur State Commissioner for Women and Children, Dr. Batol Ibrahim, expressed her appreciation to UNAMID Police Women Network for the support they are providing to women prisoners and explained that the East Darfur state is planning to embark on a vocational training program for female inmates, to prepare them for a fruitful life after prison.

The Director of El Daein Prisons, Colonel Yahaya Ibrahim, commended UNAMID for its continued support to the prison and appealed to other humanitarian organizations as well as civil societies to extend a helping hand to upgrade the living standards of the prisoners.  “This support signifies that UNAMID is here to help the people of Darfur”, Col.
