UNAMID Hands Over Weapon Storage Facilities to Sudan Police in East Darfur

On 8 August, UNAMID’s Ordinance Disposal Office (ODO) in collaboration with the Mission’s Police Component, handed over eight modified weapon and ammunition storage facilities to the Government of Sudan Police in El Daein, east Darfur. The project is part of the Mission’s continued efforts to build the capacity of local police to meet to international policing standards.

At the handover ceremony, UNAMID ODO Team Leader, Sector East, Mr. Fidaa Soufan explained that the storage facilities will enhance the management of weapons and ammunition as well as increase the safety and security of weapons in the Sector.  

Sudan Deputy Police Commissioner, East Darfur, Brigadier General Mohammed Al-Deen, commended UNAMID for its continued support to the Government of Sudan Police and appealed to the Mission to consider extending similar support to other localities in east Darfur.

UNAMID Ordinance Disposal Unit has constructed more than 12 Ammunition Storage Facilities in east Darfur and conducted various training programmes for the Government of Sudan Police and members of the Union for Disabled Persons in the area.
