Before I start the briefing, I’d like to highlight that our press/media colleagues play a significant role in building trust, giving hope and encouraging reconciliation amongst the parties to the ongoing conflict in Darfur.
  • 01 Feb 2018 - The Security Council welcomes improvements in the security situation as well as the ongoing absence of armed clashes between government forces and the armed opposition, in addition to the extension of unilateral cessations of hostilities by both sides.
  • 29 Jan 2018 - Elfasher, 29 January 2018 – The African Union-United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Sudan yesterday regarding the opening of a temporary operating base in Golo, Central Jebel Marra locality, Central Darfur State, as per the Mission’s mandate.
  • 28 Dec 2017 - El Fasher, 28 December 2017—On behalf of the African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID), I wish the people and the Government of Sudan a peaceful and joyous new year. Furthermore, I would like to congratulate them on the Independence Day of Sudan which would be commemorated on 1 January.
  • 29 Nov 2017 - El Fasher, 28 November 2017 - On 26 November 2017, UNAMID received information that one of its civilian staff has been arrested and charged with sexual offences involving a minor.
  • 25 Nov 2017 - NEW YORK - Every woman and every girl has the right to a life free of violence. Yet this rupture of human rights occurs in a variety of ways in every community, particularly affecting those who are most marginalized and vulnerable. Around the world, more than 1 in 3 women have experienced physical and/or sexual violence in their lives; 750 million women were married before age 18, and more than 250 million have undergone Female Genital Mutilation. 
  • 21 Nov 2017 - GENEVA (21 November 2017) – A report by the UN Human Rights Office and the African Union-UN Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) has called on the Sudanese Government to pursue effective, transparent and durable policies to enable the 2.6 million people internally displaced by the long-running conflict in Darfur to return home voluntarily or to reintegrate into host communities.
  • 04 Nov 2017 - EL FASHER -- On 2 November 2017, armed government forces entered Kalma IDP camp, South Darfur, in a show of force to conduct a weapons collection campaign in the state. UNAMID peacekeepers on the ground during the incident reported that more than 100 government military vehicles, including trucks with mounted weapons and armoured personnel carriers, briefly entered parts of the camp.
